Kenneth Omeruo Reveals Why He Won’t Return To NPFL As Player

development rather than returning to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as a player.During a live session on X (formerly Twitter), Omeruo shared his thoughts alongside fellow internationals Wilfred Ndidi and Asisat Oshoala.
He explained that the lack of top-flight clubs in his hometown of Abuja plays a role in his decision not to return to the NPFL.

Nonetheless, Omeruo demonstrated his passion for Nigerian football, expressing interest in nurturing young talent and aspiring to contribute to the league’s development.

Kenneth Omeruo said, “I don’t think I will come back to play in the NPFL. I grew up in Abuja, and they don’t have a club playing in the top flight. And right now, I can’t go back to Akure. I don’t see myself going back to the Nigerian league to play, but I’m someone who likes scouting good players.”

Even though the Nigeria international had said he wouldn’t want to return to the NPFL as a player, he expressed a desire to be a coach in the league after retirement from active football.

Omorou said, “I know the quality we have; it’s immense. After football, I’d love to manage the Nigerian league. I know it’s not easy, but we should be selling players like the Brazilians, not for meagre funds.”
